Eddie Jacobs’ musical life began as a jazz saxophonist. He studied composition at UMass/Amherst, University of California, Berkeley, and Columbia University. Ed’s work has been recognized by a Charles Ives Award of the American Academy of Arts & Letters, and by appointment as Robert L. Jones Distinguished Professor of Music at East Carolina University. In 2000 he founded the NORTH CAROLINA NEWMUSIC INITIATIVE, and in 2014 broadened the Initiative to include an innovative commissioning program.
